Yes, you definitely read sea snail but, before you dismiss the herbivore it’s quite tasty the way they prepare it in The Bahamas.
You can find queen conch across the Caribbean. The Florida Keys, The Bahamas and Bermuda are predominantly where the mollusk lives.
To find these beautiful sea creatures, you need to grab your snorkelling and scuba gear.
However, it won’t be hard to spot if you’re in the water because Bahamian waters are crystalline.
When you travel to The Bahamas, you need to try the different conch dishes.
A favourite go-to dish is conch salad. The salad includes tomatoes, onions, green peppers and lemon/lime juice.
Similarly, conch fritters make a great appetizer. Battered with flour and deep-fried, these bite-sized balls are quite tasty.
If you want to add a little spice to your conch fritters, hot sauce is recommended.
However, if you enjoy deep-fried food and want something more filling, then we would suggest trying cracked conch or the cracked conch sandwich.
Similar to deep-fried calamari with more flavour, the cracked conch is served with fries or sometimes rice.
Some restaurants serve cracked conch with ketchup, and hot sauce slathered over it. If you’re not a fan, ask for naked cracked conch.
The cracked conch sandwich is also perfect for lunch or dinner. The sandwich is stuffed with onions, lettuce, and tomatoes.
